Throughout the second season, Zane's personality begins to change slightly in a nice way after discovering Rikki again as a mermaid. He's a very caring boyfriend who is more than what a first impression can be made of him. "The obnoxious stuff is just an act, he tries to keep people away", was once stated by Rikki. The two become a secret couple until Emma and Cleo find out, and greatly disapprove of their relationship due to their lack of trust for Zane, although Rikki feels differently. Zane soon returns to the girls' lives, determined to rekindle his relationship with Rikki. Zane reconciles with his father, Harrison and goes off for a short stay at boarding school. He and Rikki break-up after her saying that "they're too different." With the help of Lewis (who is often dragged into Zane's crazy schemes, even though he hates Zane) he saves the girls from Dr. When his obsession finally lands him the discovery of the mermaids, he is shocked to find it to be Rikki, Emma and Cleo. Miriam can't seem to handle that news and becomes the main threat to Rikki and Zane's relationship. Though having thought to be dating Miriam Kent, the local mean girl, but he is quick to point out that they were never together. When the two got caught on a balcony together, they unexpectedly developed feelings for one another. His tenacity was not only spent on finding sea monsters, but also on winning the heart of the unlikely Rikki Chadwick.
Zane never knew the mermaids he was after were right under his nose or that close to his heart as it could be put later on. He catches his first look at a mermaid when he sees Emma while scuba diving.įortunately, Emma had decided she wanted a change from being "dependable Emma" and had dyed her blond hair red, but was only red in mermaid form. Chatham's boat, Lorelei, begins to sink with him trapped inside. Zane gets a glimpse of Emma's tail when Mrs. Especially shown when Lewis says that he "sees the glass as being half full", whereas Zane "sees it as something to hit people with." Zane's attitude and behavior most likely comes from his father who constantly tells Zane that he is spoiled and useless. Zane enjoys teasing Lewis, Cleo, Emma and especially Rikki. Zane was also tricked, but later found out that they were still mermaids. Also for a short while, Linda Denman, Harrison and the rest of Denman's crew who are later tricked into thinking that the girls lost their tails.
He is one of the few people who is aware of the mermaids' secret including Lewis McCartney, Will Benjamin, Ash and Charlotte Watsford. His pranks are the reason the girls turned into mermaids on Mako Island in the first place. Zane and his father, Harrison have a very shaky relationship leading to Zane's seemingly obnoxious behavior. Zane is the rich, local "bad boy" who is the son of a prominent businessman, Harrison Bennett.
